Presidio & Chuseok Festival

Sherri wanted to go to the city, and celebrating Chuseok in the presidio was a good excuse to get out there. We arrived at the presidio early, around 9:30am so we could make sure we had parking and time to check out the new tunnel top park that was finished almost 2 years ago.

I was really impressed with how the tunnel tops turned out, there were so many nice places to sit, and there was a great view. IF there was no fog, I could easily see the golden gate bridge and alcatraz. With the highway going under the park, it made it feel very easy to get to the coastline of crissy field. Extended and made the area feel very nature, safe. Especially when you have a toddler with you.

We went to the children’s playground, and the field station. I loved how the playground had water features that all you to press down on a button and water would come out from under the button faucet head, then roll down the wooden planks into the sand. My kid played with that water feature for almost 5 minutes straight.

What was confusing was that DonutFunRun canopy that was setup, no one was sure if it was for a run, or if it was a donut popup. It was a donut pop up, and the donuts were so beautiful looking. Sherri wanted to get one for Naomi, but I said we should not be giving it to her if she doesn’t notice it. One day she will notice it and we will always have to get something for her.

The Outpost field station was such an amazing looking children’s area. It looked like if you took an artist’s shed/observation post and make it look pretty, while also functional for kids. I would describe it as if the store anthropologie and a person’s home shed was combined. They had all the senses activities for today. Naomi was able to paint, and smell all the different flowers. There was also hummingbird sage tea to taste, and I overheard a girl asking her grandma how they fit the hummingbird into the tea dispenser.

Eventually, we got up to the Chuseok Festival at the presidio. There were so many good korean food trucks there, and it was packed with a lot of families and people listening to the korean dj, watching the korean traditional and k-pop dance. We set up picnic blanket behind all the chairs, so we had a fairly good view of the area. Around 1pm, Naomi passed out, so we ended up leaving around then. I had bought my parking ticket for the whole day, so I let the person who was parking behind me have my ticket.

Overall, today was a great day for our family. One of the first times in a while that Sherri and I had a very smooth event that didn’t have a lot of issues of forgeting something, and rushing to get out of the house on time. I think the biggest thing was me just buying breakfast instead of trying to make it, which ended up saving me from running out of time.
