This weekend was the Transparent Retreat. The theme was Level Up!
I was originally going to be driving people up, but the people in my carpool all disappeared. One girl Lisa was picked up and brought by someone else, while Sherri’s mom got sick and went to the ER. So Sherri could not come at all. That was pretty sad, because I didn’t want to drive by myself, I jumped into my roommate Chosen’s car.
I would say we had a really good car ride, nobody got really car sick. What I have noticed is that I am starting to get car sick more easily. I’m not exactly sure why. It could be my body just doesn’t do as many spins when I am playing so I get nauseated more.
So the speaker was Matty Blevins of First Baptist church. He has a really interesting way of speaking. I think it is because he also loves fantasy like Lord of the Rings, and he trains in MMA. What happens is that he preaches a little bit like a Pastor/Trainer/Coach. Giving people challenges, and pushing you up.
The message was mostly geared around Peter, with a lot of it about the following three things.
-The Initial Call – What does it mean to follow Jesus
-The Walking on Water – Living out real faith
-The Final Call- Returning to the call
What I never really noticed was how Peter was a great story on how to follow God. I think it is mostly because I never really connected with Peter, because of his personality. He was super hot heated and fiery, and irrational in the things he did. However he did so many cool things, like he actually walked on water. So it was interesting to see the take on how Peter is a great study on how to level up your walk with God.
One of my favorite things of retreat is the campfire. What was funny this year was that I didn’t read the text I got correctly. So I didn’t realize I only had to bring chocolate for the smores. So I ended up buying everything to make smores. It was pretty funny when I realized I had brought too much.
The retreat game was really interesting. We had to make videos where we drew out a bible story, and then a video genre.
We ended up with Golden Calf as an Infomercial.

Another really nice workshop we took was one where you learned how to deal with hard co-workers. It is really interesting how there really is only one type of worker that you don’t like to work with “the nice guy”
Overall, I would say it was a good retreat. Was it life changing? No, but it was a good reminder of things.
The interesting thing about the retreat schedule was that for sunday, they didn’t provide breakfast and lunch. Instead they provided brunch.
So we ate korean food for an after lunch meal. The place Kunjip place had a good stew, I think the spicy one is so much better than the non-spicy one.
The last thing, I got really happy because the people in my tv club bought me a new papasan. I guess it will replace my recliner because that thing is broken. I think it had a 250 pound weight limit, but that limit was met.
